11TH ANNUAL BUSINESS AWARDS
Salt Spring Island’s 2016 Small Business Awards Handed Out at ArtSpring! What an unforgettable evening of networking, community, great food and drink and entertainment at the 10th Annual Awards Ceremony! Thank you the 120 people who attended! Congratulations to the 9 Award Winners from 100 Nominees!
The 2016 Salt Spring Island Business Awards drew a great crowd of local Salt Spring entrepreneurs to ArtSpring on Thursday, October 20th. Award winners in 9 categories were on hand to receive their trophies in front of a supportive group of fellow local business owners, non-profit groups and customers.
“Small business is the heart of our Island” said Chamber President Li Read. “Without you, many of the services we count on every day in our lives would not be possible. Congratulations to the local business people in this room and keep up the great work!!”
The evening, sponsored by Island Savings, and supported by the Driftwood Gulf Islands Media, capped off a great year for small businesses on Salt Spring. In addition to an excellent tourism season on the Island, local businesses are being supported through “Shop Local” programs. Over 100 people were there to cheer each other on at this fun and festive event. With wonderful catering provided by Penny Jones with Penny’s Pantry on the Green, and live jazz courtesy of Sky Valley, the attendees were treated to a great evening.
Beautiful “Made on Salt Spring Island” trophies were handed out to well-deserving recipients. They were created by Mark Lauchner of the Glass Foundry using recycled glass, and Ron Ateah of Salt Spring CNC using local maple wooden bases engraved in their own on-island facilities. Along with the Award Winners, several Salt Spring businesses were presented with Certificates of Appreciation for their contribution to our communities well being. These were: Mouat’s Trading, Auntie Pesto’s Cafe, Country Grocer, Barb’s Bakery and Bistro,Thrifty Foods and the Tree House Cafe. Thank you for being so great!
