The Salt Spring Island Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that we continue to be Canada’s first Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre to become accredited members of Green Tourism Canada. Our “silver” re-accreditation was made official on August 3rd. We are proud to be working within this program to promote Salt Spring Island’s reputation as an eco-friendly destination where business and nature work together in harmony!
Congratulations to the Salt Spring Economic Development Commission for your new website called Opportunity Salt Spring. It is well designed and full of great information on starting a business on the island, growing and existing business or relocating to this wonderful community.
Thank you for joining us for the Weekend of Action Saturday, April 21st and Sunday, April 22nd coinciding Earth Day Celebrations. It ended with a gathering in Centennial Park for Earth Day. Starting at 9 am and going until 3 pm on Saturday and 3 pm on Sunday. On Saturday we focused on the harbour and beach clean up and on Sunday we focused on Ganges Village. The event will wrap up at Earth Day Celebrations in Centennial park going from noon to 5 pm.
The Board of Directors of the Salt Spring Island Chamber of Commerce has written to Minister Doug Donaldson, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources, to encourage a change in the designation of Salt Spring and the Southern Gulf Islands from urban to rural. We have this designation due to the Capital Regional District's urban designation.
We are happy to announce that the GISS Culinary Program is the recipient of part proceeds from the Chamber of Commerce hosted Sip & Savour Salt Spring. The event, a part of the Harvest Festival, took place October 21st at the Farmers Institute. The donation of $500 was presented in front of a giant Culinary Program logo at the High School on Dec. 21st.
