Salt Spring Chamber supports changing Salt Spring Island’s designation from urban to rural

The Board of Directors of the Salt Spring Island Chamber of Commerce has written to Minister Doug Donaldson, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources, to encourage a change in the designation of Salt Spring and the Southern Gulf Islands from urban to rural. We have this designation due to the Capital Regional District’s urban designation.
This is a major disadvantage to our communities as there are funding programs in place for infrastructure, projects and small businesses who are located in rural communities in other parts of BC. The Chamber seeks to change this and will continue to advocate for this change in order to have access to much needed funding.
