is run entirely by volunteers?

Our community operates one of the most effective visitor centres in BC—connecting thousands of guests each year to local businesses, attractions, and experiences. The VIC plays a key role in our tourism economy, influencing over $4.5 million in visitor spending annually. Already in 2025, we’re seeing tourists staying longer and visiting earlier in the season, with noticeable spikes in February and April.

But here’s the challenge:

How You Can Help:

1. Volunteer with Us!

Do you know and love Salt Spring Island? Share your knowledge! Join our family of volunteers—bring a friend, meet people from around the world, and help showcase what makes our island special.

All volunteers complete a short, easy training in-person program. It’s not onerous, and you’ll enjoy meeting other volunteers as part of the process. Even a few hours a week can make a big difference.

2. Donate to Support Summer Staffing

We’re raising funds to hire local students through wage subsidy programs and grants. Country Grocer and Island Savings have already stepped up—will you? Can you sponsor a student volunteer? Your support helps us train and employ students who will assist our volunteers during the busy summer season — gaining valuable experience while keeping the VIC running smoothly.

3. Offer Perks to Volunteers and Students

Do you run a local business? Consider offering a small discount or freebie to our VIC team. It’s a fantastic way to thank our volunteers and get your products into the hands of Salt Spring’s best ambassadors.
