From gallery walls to behind-the-scenes — join us for our next Member Mixer at the Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) Exhibition on Wednesday, October 15th from 5 – 6:30 PM at Mahon Hall - 114 Rainbow Rd.

Curious about the inner workings of one of Canada’s most prestigious art prizes?

The Salt Spring National Art Prize (SSNAP) is giving local business owners exclusive insight into how this nationally recognized, biennial juried competition operates—and the impact it has on artists, visitors, and the island community.

Since 2015, SSNAP has celebrated contemporary Canadian visual art, with an independent jury selecting around 50 standout works from nearly 2,000 submissions for the core national exhibition. Only the art itself is judged, keeping the process completely inclusive and focused on creativity and originality.

This mixer is your chance to meet the organizers, hear what’s new, and discover how SSNAP continues to nurture artistic careers while drawing visitors to Salt Spring Island. During the three-week exhibition period, hundreds of off-island guests attend, many staying overnight and supporting local businesses—from restaurants to shops to accommodations—helping bring vibrancy to Salt Spring during a traditionally quieter season.

Alongside the national exhibition, the Parallel Art Show features local artists, a youth exhibition, and over 100 artworks in total, creating a unique showcase that celebrates both national and local creativity. Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a local business owner, or simply curious, this mixer offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the people and passion that make SSNAP a driving force in Canadian contemporary visual arts—and in our island community.

Guests will enjoy drinks and appetizers, FREE Entry to the exhibition, and a chance to win a gift basket, valued at $200, generously sponsored by Folk Stock + Trade. The mixer will also provide an opportunity to discuss how local businesses can engage with SSNAP, expand its visibility, and be part of its growing cultural impact.
